2026 Analytics Competition

New analytics competition. Another chance to shine.

The 2026 Sumer x Shrine Bowl Analytics Competition, similar to the NFL Big Data Bowl, gives you actual football data and industry-relevant challenges to showcase how you think and build analytics that matter to decision makers. Finalists present live during East-West Shrine Bowl week in front of NFL scouts, coaches, and analytics leads, a rare chance to get your work in front of front office eyes.

What you’ll work with
You’ll get access to historical East-West Shrine Bowl practice and game data, which typically includes player performance metrics collected at practices and games (e.g., drill outcomes, play stats), and college performance stats to contextualize prospects.

Sample questions/analysis tracks
Organizers suggest, but don’t limit you to, these core problem types:

  • Drill evaluation metrics: craft an objective metric to evaluate how players perform in standardized drills (e.g., combine-style movement/skill tests) using practice history.

  • Player forecasting models: build models that forecast meaningful outcomes like likelihood to play in the NFL or rookie-year performance using Shrine Bowl and college data.

You can be creative, the goal is connecting data to football decisions with solid methods and clear communication. Submissions include a concise slide deck and optional code repo, judged on football insight, analytical rigor, reproducibility, and narrative quality.

Why it’s a standout opportunity
Work that resonates can be amplified by SumerSports and Shrine Bowl channels, and the winning team gets introductions to all 32 NFL clubs after the event.
