Have you watched the Superbowl LVIII ? What were your predictions?
There is a lot of content around analytics in the NFL lately. I’ve shared with you some related to the Big Data Bowl. There will probable be more content in the internet regarding analytics and the Superbowl. The nice thing about football is that it has discrete plays and actions, with a clear start and end time and predefined situations that you can analyze in some sense independently.
In the past few years there was a lot of attention on what to do during 4th and few yards. Should you punt? Should you try to go for 1st and 10? When should you do each one of them? Lots of detractors also appeared despite facing some well done analysis.
I hope we see some nice content about some specific decisions that were made during the Superbowl and I encourage you to do your own small project about it.
You might be wondering where I can get data for such thing? There are probably multiple places to get it, some free, some paid. I am personally a user of MYSPORTSFEEDS.
You can get NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL data with different plans and pricing. The personal use one are fairly accessible and their customer support is really great.
This is not a referral, it’s just my personal tip for you. I have been a user of them for the past few years to get NBA data.
