I’ve mentioned to you about the Big Data Bowl in the newsletter and in the blog. It’s a great place to make yourself a name, practice real sports analytics with data provided and answer questions from the competition but also letting the creativity flow.

@chaygriff says:

as someone who has worked in recruiting for major tech companies this competition is a great way to get your name out there so make sure you take advantage of that!include your linkedin, git, and personal websites in your submittals - this'll make it easier to get noticed

Making great analysis, getting value from data and helping make game decisions are basically the goals of sports analytics. If you can show that you can do that, please provide links to code, resources used, your social network, etc. Anything that can be useful to an external person, who doesn’t know anything about you, to want to learn more about you and what you did.

You are very familiar with what you know, your skills, the decisions you made for an analysis and what interests you, but unless you are really clear about it every time, probably anyone reading your posts will know nothing about that. And you need to give them an easy way to reach you and you need to give them more to be really interested.

Don’t miss on that.

Here is an example of  a  Big Data Bowl submission. Well structured, great explanations, mathematical basis and good visuals to keep the reader focused and wanting for more. Also big visual impacts catch the attention of people not so familiar and make the presentation easier to remember.

Hope this is useful as a reference. Start doing something instead of just wishing, go for it, try it.

Let’s have a better 2024

Happy 2024 to all of you!

I want to help you more this year, doubling efforts on the site and the outcome for you.

I want to hear your thoughts, what do you think is missing, how can I help you more. Would you spend a few minutes to share your opinion and help me help you with an only 7 questions survey?

Honest feedback even if it’s harsh please. The only way to make this better is listening to you.

Also, a huge THANK YOU for all of you for having subscribed. This is a one man army trying to get you the best experience to get your dream job in sports. This is the job board I would have loved to find a few years ago.

Don’t hesitate to reach out or submit feedback if you have ideas for improvement.
